Prepare for Your Consultation

Please arrive with relatively clean, dry hair in ideally it's natural state or the style you primarily wear it in. (IE: if you are naturally curly and wish to wear your hair curly more than 50% of the time). During this consultation we will be discussing custom looks for you, so please feel free to have up to 3 inspirational looks to help communicate the look you may wish to achieve. We will also be taking measurements of your hair & head shape as well as custom colour matching your natural hair in order to achieve the most natural blend possible.

Prepare for Your Treatment

It is not necessary to show up with clean styled hair on your installation date, as we will be beginning with a triple clarifying shampoo followed with a blow dry to properly prepare your hair for installation. It is important to have avoided any and all hair colouring products such as permanent, demi-permanent, semi-permanent or temporary hair colours including hennas and vivids 48 hours prior to installation. Bonding Treatments such as Olaplex® and FibrePlex® should be avoided approximately one week prior. If you live outside city limits and have hard (well) water, you may want to begin with a cleansing treatment like Malibu® Hard Water Treatments.

What are Great Lengths Hair Extensions?

More than 25 years ago, Great Lengths established itself as the premiere producer of high quality extensions and started a new era in the professional beauty industry and the mainstreaming of hair extension services.

Great Lengths remains the leader in the world of high quality hair extensions as a result of:

  • Innovation in bonding technology

  • Patented, non-toxic and damage-free colourization processes

  • Award winning application systems

  • The category’s most comprehensive education programs

  • Hair ethically sourced exclusively from the Temples of India

The method of bonding patented by Great Lengths is of the highest technology. The keratin is a polymer compound whose molecular structure is very similar to that of human hair and respects its same properties and alterations. When wet, hair expands and when dry it contracts back to its natural state. Our keratin moves and behaves like your own hair, ensuring a gentle yet strong hold without damage.

Where do Great Lengths come from?

Great Lengths patented protein polymer bond ensures a quick and simple application either with heat or ultrasound system. Bonds are made from synthetic keratin mimicking the molecular structure of natural keratin found in human hair and skin and maintaining a pH value of 5.5 to be compatible with your hair, scalp and skin.

Who can wear them?

Virtually anyone* can wear Great Lengths hair extensions! As a truly unique and discreet system, there are nearly no restrictions for those with healthy hair who wish to wear them. Perfect for anyone with very fine, fine, medium or even thick textures of hair, these extensions can be placed in ways that no other extension can; giving you an undetectable life changing result.

*You may have to wait for hair extensions if:

  • You've had a baby within the last 6 months, or are still nursing.

  • You've had Anesthesia or Twilight Anesthesia within the last 6 months

  • You've undergone Chemotherapy Treatments within the last 6 months

  • You're experiencing hair loss from Medication. For a List of Potential Medical interactions, Click Here. Please book a consultation for more info.

How long do they last?

Recommended removal is every 3 to 5 months, depending upon the type of application performed (i.e. lengthening, volumizing, etc), the state/condition of the clients natural hair, and their lifestyle. In some cases with proper home care maintenance, Great Lengths extensions can last for up to 6 months.

Will Great Lengths extensions damage my natural hair?

Whichever method of application you choose, hair extensions are a cosmetic procedure and so, as with any cosmetic procedure, if applied and maintained properly, the application will not damage your hair.
The key to a successful, damage free application lies in the details of the application. There is no "cookie cutter", "one size fits all" application technique, as each client has different hair conditions and desired results that must be considered.

How much do Great Lengths cost?

Great Lengths Service cost can vary greatly from client to client because each is truly a custom service. There are also many GL application options to be considered, such as lengthening, full volumizing, zonal volumizing, dimensional colour work or special needs applications. For the most accurate answer, based upon the state of your natural hair and desired result, schedule a consultation to chat about a custom look with Great Lengths!

Do I need a consultation?

Great Lengths applications are custom to each client. A consultation is essential in order to give you accurate pricing information. It’s during the consultation you and the stylist will agree upon the desired result. This time together also allows the stylist to determine what lengths and colors are needed to achieve the result so that they have the correct lengths and colors ready for you on your application day.

Where do Great Lengths come from?

100% Indian Temple Hair. Ethically sourced and traceable, guaranteed.

It has been estimated that of the 1000 tons of human hair shipped into the US every year, only 25% is from known ethical sources. With no current regulatory body demanding ethicality in the hair extension industry, the salon industry and the consumer has had no guarantee that the hair extensions they chose were traceable, ethical or of good quality – until now.

Great Lengths sources the very best human hair from Indian Hindu Temples. The hair has been donated willingly by villagers to the temple as an act of devotion to their faith. The revenue generated by Temple Hair is used for the funding of schools, health clinics and other community services.

Extension Care & Maintenance

  • Do not shampoo for two days after your Great Lengths application. We strongly suggest that only Great Lengths products be used to maintain your hair.

  • Great Lengths recommends that you return to your Certified Great Lengths Extensionist approximately two weeks after your application. This follow-up visit allows you Extensionist to inspect the application to ensure that your Great Lengths application result is performing as expected.

  • When shampooing, always wash your hair with your head back, not tilted forward. Never dry with a scrubbing action, instead wrap a towel to absorb the excess moisture. When allowing your hair to “air dry,” Great Lengths recommends that the attachment sites be dried with a blow dryer to prevent the bonds from remaining wet for an extended period of time.

  • Always use the Great Lengths Anti-tap Formula after every wet treatment. Mix 25 - 30ml Anti-tap to 500ml water in a spray bottle. The Anti-tap Formula is designed to neutralize irregularities in your water source and/or to protect the keratin bond polymers from chlorine, saltwater and other solutions not compatible with a proper pH.

  • To prevent premature bond breakdown always saturate your hair with water and apply Great Lengths Anti-tap Formula prior to swimming, exercising, using a sauna or any activity that creates moisture in your hair for an extended period of time. Immediately after such activities, shampoo thoroughly, condition, apply the Anti-tap Formula and blow-dry the attachment sites (bonds) on low.

  • Brush Great Lengths three times a day with the recommended Great Lengths brush. Unlike many extension systems, regular and thorough brushing is recommended for Great Lengths extensions. Beginning at the nape, brush row by row, scalp to ends. Always pull Great Lengths into a softly help ponytail while sleeping or any activity that has your hair blowing in the wind. These important brushing and steps will prevent tangling at the attachment sites. Never sleep with wet hair.

  • Styling options for Great Lengths are virtually limitless. However, there are a few precautions you will want to take. Blow-drying and use of curling irons, flat irons and hot rollers may be used but heat must be kept at an adequate distance for 1.5 inches from the attachment site (bond).

  • Some extension loss is normal throughout the life of your Great Lengths application. The average person experiences natural hair loss of 100 to 150 hairs a day. A full-head Great Lengths application covers approximately one-third of the head. After some time you can expect to see a small quantity of your hair that has shed naturally yet is still attached to the bond. This is normal and should not be interpreted as hair that has been pulled out of the scalp by the extensions. Daily brushing as instructed above will void those loose hairs from tangling or matting at the attachment site.
